Vinhão

Vinhão is mainly appreciated for its coloring qualities, since it creates deeply red colored wines, opaque to light. It is believed to be originally from Minho, being later taken to the Douro region, where it is known as Sousão.
This grape variety has medium-sized, uniform, bluish-black berries.
In the Vinhos Verdes region, Vinhão is the most grown red grape variety.  Wines produced with this grape variety have high acidity and, sometimes, are very acidulous. In Douro, Vinhão is used mainly to colour the wine, including Port.

Borraçal

Borraçal is one of the red grape varieties most grown in the region of Vinhos Verdes. It is planted in almost the entire region, where it is also known as Esfarrapa or Bogalhal, among other names.
This grape variety has small, tapered bunches. The berries are medium-sized, not uniform, and bluish-black.
Wines made from Borraçal are ruby coloured and have a high acidity level.

Vinho Verde is unique in the world.

Its vibrant freshness, elegance, lightness and aromatic and flavorful expressions, especially its fruity and floral notes, are the characteristics that define and differentiate Vinho Verde.

Exclusively produced in the demarcated region of Vinho Verde in northwestern Portugal, it is only produced from the indigenous grape varieties of the region, preserving its typicity of aromas and flavors as unique in the world of wine.

Red Vinho Verde wines are an intense red color, sometimes with a pink or bright red foam, and with a vinous aroma, especially of berries. In the mouth it is fresh and intense, and a very good food wine.

The Denomination of Origin Vinho Verde

Is a traditional name that designates wine products originating from grapes from the demarcated region of Vinho Verde, whose quality and uniqueness are a result of the natural conditions of the region, and whose winemaking and production occur within the demarcated region.

To qualify for the Designation of Origin Vinho Verde, wine products are subject to strict control of all stages of the production process, from the vineyard to the glass. The varieties used, the methods of vinification and organoleptic characteristics are just some of the elements which the Denomination of Origin controls.

The quality and genuineness of Denomination of Origin Vinho Verde products is ensured by the Seal of Guarantee, which has certified Vinho Verde since 1959.

The Denomination of Origin Vinho Verde is employed with still and sparkling wine, white, red and rosé wine, and Brandy Wine, Bagaceira (marc spirit) and red or rosé vinegar.
